Midwestern Obsession

Having been borned and raised in Iowa and now hailing from Chicago, I have a true love of ranch dressing, and this ranch snack mix is no exception. The tangy, herby flavor compliments everything from salads to pizzas to chicken and of course, pretzels and crackers.  When you’re from the midwestern states, Ranch dressing is on the side of nearly every meal and packets of the seasoning can be found in most pantries.

The inspiration for this snack mix comes from a holiday classic where I grew up, baked oyster crackers with ranch seasoning. To spice things up, I instead used cheese crackers and mini pretzels, because adding more salt and cheese has never hurt anything! I tested this recipe a few weeks back and it made for a great treat during a camping trip.  In the upcoming weeks, I’m looking forward to snacking on this over the holidays!  It will be the perfect handful to grab while waiting for your Thanksgiving dinner to cook, to get you through decorating your Christmas tree, or to snack on while watching your favorite seasonal movie or football team.

The Ranch Snack Mix Recipe Details

The best part of this recipe is how simple it is.  All it takes is a couple of bowls, a spoon and a baking tray. Mix some melted butter with buttermilk recipe ranch mix (I like the Hidden Valley Buttermilk Recipe best), some garlic powder and dried dill and pour it over your crackers, mixing to coat everything in the delicious seasoning. It bakes in 20 minutes, after a quick stir halfway through, and then cools directly on the tray.  Unlike most baked things, this mix is best once it’s cooled. That’s when you can really taste the zing of the buttermilk and savory-ness of the herbs

I hope you love this recipe as much as I do!  If you give it a try, let me know and tag me in your photos on Instagram or Facebook.  Enjoy!
