A Truly Addictive Snack

Have you ever found yourself at a party glued to a particular bowl or tray of appetizers?  Like you really want to join in on the fun, but there’s something so addictive about the snack that’s in arm’s reach that you just can’t pull yourself away?  That’s exactly what this buffalo ranch snack mix will do to you. Make a batch and see, you won’t be able to stop yourself from going back for “just one more bite”.

This spicy ranch snack mix is a mix of cheesy crackers, pretzels, and buttery crackers, but you can mix and match whatever salty snacks you love or already have at home. Have some fun with it! They’ll bake up with loads of zesty ranch flavor and a bit of heat from cayenne pepper and hot sauce, giving a bit of heat at the end of each bite.

Buffalo Ranch Snack Mix Recipe Tips and Tricks

When you make this spicy ranch snack mix, here are a few tips to make it extra delicious:

  • When it comes to this recipe, I am very brand loyal to a couple of the ingredients. For starters, the Hidden Valley Buttermilk Recipe ranch mix is the best (affiliate link). The buttermilk flavor gives an extra zesty kick that I love!  Second, the hot sauce has to be Frank’s Red Hot Original when you do anything buffalo flavored (affiliate link). The flavor is quintessentially buffalo-wing-like and the perfect heat level.
  • Mix the butter and season mixture well before pouring it onto the crackers, ensuring there aren’t any clumps of seasoning left.  Otherwise, you may end up with one cracker with a large lump of seasoning stuck to it, but little seasoning elsewhere.
  • When you pour the butter mixture over the crackers, try pouring half of it to begin, giving it a good stir, and then pouring the rest.  It will help coat the crackers and pretzels more evenly.

Make the Buffalo Ranch Butter

It’s no secret I love buffalo and ranch together. I take a quick look through the appetizers and snacks on my recipe list and you’ll see both flavors pop up frequently. This recipe in particular is so easy to pull together and is so addictive it won’t last long. It’s very similar to my classic Ranch Snack Mix, but with the addition of the spice of hot sauce and a pinch of cayenne pepper.

To start this spicy ranch snack mix recipe, you’ll first make a buffalo ranch butter mixture. To do this, melt some butter in a small bowl, or I like to use a glass liquid measuring cup, and then mix in the hot sauce, ranch seasoning packet, onion, powder, garlic powder, dried dill, and a pinch of cayenne.  A little cayenne goes a long way in this recipe, so a small pinch is all I need!

Coat and Bake the Crackers

Once your butter mixture is stirred, add a mixture of crackers to a large bowl.  I recommend a mixture of cheese crackers, mini pretzels, and buttery round crackers. They give a nice mixture of textures and all hold onto the spicy ranch flavoring well! Slowly pour the butter mixture into the large bowl of crackers and pretzels, giving them a good stir or toss to evenly coat every piece with the buffalo butter mixture. Transfer the crackers onto a large baking tray and use a silicone spatula to scrape out any extra of the butter mixture onto the crackers on the tray. Bake for 25 minutes, until the butter mixture has baked into the snack mix and they are crisp. Let them cool on the tray and then either serve right away or store in an airtight container for up to one week.
