Frequent Recipe Questions
Can I prepare this cocktail recipe in advance?
- A: Yes! Prepare the cocktail without the ice cubes up to a few hours in advance. Refrigerate the drink until ready to drink. Stir the cocktail, add ice, and enjoy!
What brand of tequila do you like to use?
- A: I love Casamigos tequila blanco. The flavor is smooth and it has a lightly citrus flavor that pairs perfectly with the other flavors in this margarita recipe.
What does Aperol taste like?
- Aperol is an Italian bitter liquor. It’s mostly bitter to taste, with a slightly sweet after taste. The bitterness of the Aperol helps to balance the tartness of a classic margarita.
Is there a mocktail option?
- A: Unfortunately, no, not with this cocktail recipe. There are not suitable substitutes for this recipe to make it a mocktail. For a refreshing, citrus cocktail, check out my raspberry mojito mocktail recipe.

Aperol Margarita Recipe Tips
When you make this orange aperol margarita recipe, here are a few tips to make sure it turns out delicious:
- To make an extra cold margarita, chill the ingredients beforehand. Place the bottle of tequila in the freezer and the aperol, cointreau, and orange juice in the refrigerator. It’ll make for an extra refreshing beverage on a hot day!Â
- This is a great cocktail to make in a large batch ahead of a party. To make 8 servings, add 2 cups tequila, 1 cup aperol, ½ cup orange liquor, ½ cup lime juice, and 2 cups fresh orange juice to a pitcher. Stir and refrigerate the pitcher until you’re ready to serve. Rim the glasses, add ice, and divide the drink among 8 glasses.

Recipe Details
Prep the Glass Rim
Before mixing the cocktail, get the tajin and brown sugar rim prepared. Mix tajin, which is a chili lime salt, with a bit of brown sugar. Pour the Tajin mixture onto a shallow bowl or plate that you can easily dip the rim of your glass into.
To rim the glass, take an orange wedge, press it into the rim of the glass, and rub it along the edge of the glass releasing the orange’s juices. Press the rim of the glass into the tajin and brown sugar mixture so that it adheres to the orange juice left on the rim. Set the glasses aside as you gather the ingredients for the margarita.
Make the Margarita
To make one margarita, add a scoop of ice to the rimmed glass. Then, pour in the tequila, aperol, orange liquor, lime juice, and orange juice. Carefully stir the drink to combine the margarita ingredients together. Garnish the drink with an orange slice and enjoy right away!
