Frequent Recipe Questions
Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
- A: Absolutely! This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and then stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Use the stracciatella within 5 days of preparing. I do not recommend freezing this recipe, as it will impact the texture of the product.
What can I serve stracciatella with?
- A: Stracciatella is great on its own, served with some crusty bread. It’s also a great addition to homemade pizzas, a mix-in for fresh pastas, a spread on sandwiches, and or as a base for dips. Try adding a serving of roasted cherry tomatoes and fresh basil for a tasty treat.
What kind of salt should I use in this recipe?
- A: When making the stracciatella, I would recommend using a kosher sea salt. The finer grains will melt into the cheese and distribute better. When serving this recipe, finish it with a pinch of flaky salt for texture and pops of saltiness.
Stracciatella Recipe Tips
When making this homemade stracciatella cheese recipe, here are a few tips to make sure it turns out delicious:
- Opt for a higher quality mozzarella, if available to you. It will be easier to work with, as it will shred easier. Plus, the taste will be fresher!
- Whatever you do, do not use pre-shredded mozzarella cheese. The additives used in pre-shredded mozzarella cheese will affect the texture and you will not have the correct consistency as an end result.
