A Healthier Take on Buffalo Chicken Dip
This greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip is a high protein, slightly healthier option to the classic dip. As a self-proclaimed authority on buffalo chicken dip, I love to have an arsenal of recipes depending on the day or guests I’m cooking for. This recipe is meant for a day when you want to feel indulgent, but don’t want to eat an entire block of cream cheese.
The base of this chicken dip is pureed greek yogurt and white beans. The beans and yogurt make this dip super creamy, plus extra filling from an extra dose of protein (over 15 grams of protein per serving). It’s finished off with the classic flavors of ranch, hot sauce, chicken, and cheddar cheese. A sure fire winner at the next game day party!

Frequent Recipe Questions
Can I make this recipe in advance?
- A: Absolutely! This dip is great to make in advance. Prepare the recipe as instructed and then store it in the refrigerator. Then when you’re ready to serve, heat it in the oven for 20 minutes at 350°F.
How do I keep this buffalo dip warm?
- This buffalo chicken dip will work great in a slow cooker. Rather than baking the dip in a casserole dish, transfer it to a slow cooker and place it on high. Cook the buffalo chicken dip on high for 30 minutes and then reduce the heat to low or “stay warm” for up to 4 hours.
Is this buffalo chicken dip spicy?
- A: It is a little spicy. For the average person, it will not be too spicy. But if someone is spice adverse, they may find it too hot.
What kind of hot sauce should I use?
- A: I think Frank’s Red Hot is the best hot sauce to use for buffalo chicken recipes. If you don’t have Frank’s, then substitute with another cayenne pepper based hot sauce such as Crystal or Louisiana Hot Sauce.
Recipe Tips
When you make this greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip, here are a few tips to make sure it turns out delicious:
- Before blending the beans, make sure you rinse them well in cool water until no foam remains. The bubbles that form when you rinse the beans are extra starches that were released while the beans were in the can. By rinsing the beans, it removes those extra starches. This will end in a nicer texture and reduce any tummy discomfort the beans may cause.
- I think this recipe is best with white chicken meat, but a combo of white and dark meat works great. I recommend shredded parts of a rotisserie chicken if it’s available to you. If not, a grilled or baked chicken breast works well too.
