Spice Up Your Life

This easy jalapeno limeade margarita may be the simplest way to enjoy a spicy margarita at home! I do my best to keep things simple, but still feel fancy, when it comes to making cocktails at home. We don’t make them much, but if we do I’m looking for it to feel like an occasion, without needing to buy lots of ingredients.

I also happen to be one of Trader Joe’s biggest fans.  Their selection of pre-made, seasonal foods gets me every time, but I’d never tried their Jalapeno Limeade until this year. I’d always been intrigued, but couldn’t picture myself just sipping on some spicy limeade – then *lightbulb* – why don’t I add some booze, some bubbles, and turn this into a cocktail?

You may be on the fence about a spicy drink, since a drink is supposed to cool you off, right?  While there is a bit of a kick to this cocktail, it doesn’t overpower it.  It’s so refreshing, but with a little bit of intrigue, a je ne sais quoi, a tickle for your mouth between bites.

Tips for Making an Easy Jalapeño Lime Margarita

When you make this easy jalapeno limeade margarita, here are a few tips to make sure it turns out delicious:

  • Don’t miss out on the garnish. A fresh squeeze of lime and slices of jalapeño not only make this drink a beauty to look at, but the taste goes from 0 to 100 very fast!
  • Unfortunately, Trader Joe’s doesn’t sell the jalapeño limeade year-round. If you’re craving this drink, but low on supply, you can instead use regular limeade and add extra slices of jalapeño. Let the jalapeño slices steep for about an hour before mixing this cocktail up.

Frequent Recipe Questions

Should I use Mezcal or Tequila in this margarita?

  • A: Either option is delicious! The tequila will have a more classic, mild margarita flavor and the mezcal will provide a smoky undertone to the drink that pairs nicely with the spicy jalapeno.

Can I make this drink into a mocktail?

  • A: Absolutely! Just omit the tequila or mezcal and mix the jalapeno limeade with the sparkling water and garnishes.

‍The Recipe Details

This margarita recipe is unbelievably simple.  Trader Joes did most of the work on this one by creating their jalapeno limeade, which is typically only available in the Summer. The limeade is perfectly sweet and the right amount of a smoky, jalapeno kick. Add the extra smokiness of a good mezcal and some sparkling water (because I like all my cocktails to have a few bubbles in it). Last, be sure to add the fresh jalapeno and lime wedge garnish for some extra freshness and you’re ready for the easiest cocktail that will impress anyone. Make it for your end of summer party, whip one up for taco Tuesday, or on a warm weekend afternoon for a fun happy hour.
