The “Fanciest” Pigs in a Blanket Recipe

At least that’s what my fiance Matt calls this pigs in a blanket with cheese appetizer recipe.  We made this recipe for a date night in and it was an instant hit.  Then for the next three years, every time we were invited to a party, Matt offered for us to bring the “fancy” pigs in a blanket. We made it for football games, Fourth of July parties, and some random Friday night parties.

This recipe is really as simple as it sounds.  The ease of making pigs in a blanket, but with so much more flavor by adding a few extra ingredients. Before rolling up your piggy in their crescent roll blanket, add a small square of swiss cheese and a dollop of dijon mustard. Roll the crescent roll dough around the mini beef franks and then top with a sprinkle of everything but the bagel seasoning.

Bake the pigs in a blanket with cheese for about 15 minutes, until they’re nice and brown and the cheese is melted. Let the pigs in a blanket set for a minute before serving. Enjoy this appetizer goes great with a cold beer or Grapefruit Radler.

A fancier version of your classic pigs in a blanket, perfectly balanced with the creamy tangy flavors of cheese and mustard. This recipe takes your party appetizer to the next level.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven 375°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Open the container of crescent roll dough, and roll it into a flat sheet. Cut each perforated piece of dough into two, triangles, resulting in 16 long triangles of dough.

  3. At the widest part of the triangle of dough, place a piece of swiss cheese. Add a quarter teaspoon of mustard on top of the cheese and then top with a mini beef frank.

  4. Roll the remaining triangle of dough around the cheese, mustard, and frank, covering as much of the frank as you can.

  5. Place each wrapped pig in a blanket on the prepared baking sheet, a couple inches a part.

  6. Sprinkle each pig in a blanket with “everything but the bagel” seasoning to taste, pushing the seasoning into the dough as needed.

  7. Bake the pigs in a blanket for 14-16 minutes, until the crescent roll dough is browned on the edges and cooked through.

  8. Remove the baking sheet from the oven, let cool for one minute before handling. Enjoy!
