Frequent Recipe Questions
Can I make this recipe ahead of time?
- A: This recipe is definitely best served fresh, but can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for a few hours before eating. If making this guacamole recipe in advance, place a layer of plastic wrap over the top of the guacamole, so that the plastic is making direct contact, and refrigerate immediately. This will reduce the amount of browning that could occur as the avocado oxidizes.
Will this recipe freeze well?
- A: Yes, you can, but be sure the guacamole is saved in an air-tight container with as little empty space in the container as possible. If any space is left in the container, place a piece of plastic wrap directly over top of the guacamole, so that it’s touching the dip. This will help reduce any browning that may occur. If you freeze this guacamole, defrost in the refrigerator for 1 day.
Is this guacamole spicy?
- A: It’s not, but it could be! If you prefer a spicier guacamole, include the seeds from the jalapeno, as that’s where all the heat is! In addition, you could add a splash or two of your favorite hot sauce to kick it up a notch.

Super Simple Guacamole Recipe Tips
When making this super simple guacamole recipe, here are a few tips to make sure it turns out great:
- To speed up the mixing process, I like to lightly mash the flesh of the avocado before scooping it out of the skin. It makes it easier to mash the larger pieces together if they’ve already had a head start!
- Guacamole is a bit of an artform, so be sure to taste it before serving! Some avocados are more flavorful than others, some limes are less juicy than others, and one jalapeno might be spicier than the next one. Taste the guacamole (or better yet, have a friend taste it) and adjust any of the ingredients as you see fit!

Guacamole Recipe Details
To make this super simple guacamole recipe, you’ll first prep a few avocados. Slice each avocado in half, length-wise, running the knife along the pit in the center. Carefully remove and discard the pit from each avocado by using a spoon or a knife. Scoop out the flesh from each avocado and add it to a large mixing bowl. Discard the avocado skins, you won’t be needing those!
Pour the lime juice directly into the bowl over the avocado (you should need about 1 lime to make a full recipe). Use the tines of a fork or the back of a spoon to mash the avocado until it begins to look smooth, but still has a few chunks.
Add the diced jalapeno, red onion, and fresh cilantro to the bowl with the avocado. Sprinkle in a pinch of salt and stir the ingredients together, continuing to lightly mash the avocado with a spoon until the desired smoothness is reached.
Taste the guacamole and adjust the salt levels, or any of the other ingredients, if desired. Make a batch of this guacamole to add on top of a plate of Oven-baked Chicken Nachos and enjoy with an Aperol Paloma Spritz for a delicious night-in!
