Frequent Questions

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

  • A: Yes! The cauliflower and the sauce can be prepared and refrigerated for up to 1 day. Bake the cauliflower before serving to make sure it’s warm.

Will this cauliflower recipe freeze well?

  • A: I would not recommend freezing this recipe. By freezing and reheating the cauliflower, it will lose all of the crispy bits formed on the outside.

Is this recipe spicy?

  • A: This recipe is not spicy, but does have a strong black pepper flavor. If you’re adverse to black pepper, this would not be the recipe for you!

Recipe Tips

When you make these lemon pepper cauliflower wings, here are a few tips to make sure they turn out delicious:

  • For this recipe, the lemon pepper seasoning cheats a few steps compared to a store-bought lemon pepper seasoning. Mainly, the lemon zest is not dried out to make it shelf-stable. Because of this, be sure to use the seasoning right away.
  • After tossing the cauliflower in the flour and seasoning, I usually have a bit of seasoning left in the bowl. If you do too, don’t let it go to waste! Be sure to sprinkle it on to the top of the cauliflower florets and let them bake in.
  • The garlic feta dipping sauce needs a splash or two of water to make it a dippable consistency. That said, be sure to add it a little bit at a time. Otherwise, it can go from a dippable sauce to a drinkable cup of feta.
  • This is a great appetizer, but also could make a delicious side dish! If you want to serve these lemon pepper cauliflowers as a side dish, keep the garlic feta dipping sauce on the thicker side. Spread the sauce across the bottom of a serving tray and then spoon the cauliflower over the top.

Lemon Pepper Cauliflower Wings Recipe Details

Prepare the Lemon Pepper Seasoning

Before starting on the cauliflower wings themselves, you’ll make an easy batch of lemon pepper seasoning. To make the seasoning, add lemon zest, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt to a small mixing bowl. Rub the ingredients between your finger to infuse the ingredients together. Set the lemon pepper seasoning aside while you prepare the cauliflower

Start the Cauliflower Wings

To get the cauliflower wings started, preheat your oven to 425°F and set out a large baking tray. Add the cauliflower florets to a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the cauliflower and toss to coat the florets. Drizzle some olive oil over the cauliflower florets and add the prepared lemon pepper seasoning to the mixing bowl. Toss the cauliflower again to coat each piece in the lemon pepper seasoning. Transfer the lemon pepper cauliflower to the baking sheet, sprinkling any remaining lemon pepper seasoning left in the bowl over the top. Bake the cauliflower wings for about 15 minutes, until the florets are partially baked. Remove the pan from the oven, turn the cauliflower florets over, and bake for another 15 minutes. The cauliflower wings will be soft on the inside, and browned and crispy on the edges.

Blend the Garlic Feta Dipping Sauce

While the cauliflower wings are baking, you’ll prepare the garlic feta dipping sauce. To make the sauce, add mayo, greek yogurt, feta, garlic, lemon zest, salt and pepper, and a bit of water to a high-speed blender. Blend the sauce until it’s smooth and dippable. If it’s a bit thick, add more, water a teaspoon at a time until the preferred consistency is reached. Transfer the dip to a bowl and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve the cauliflower wings.

Finish the Cauliflower Wings and Enjoy

When the cauliflower wings are out of the oven, mix the melted butter and lemon juice in a small bowl. Pour the mixture over the cauliflower florets while they’re still on the pan. Stir to coat the cauliflower in the butter mixture. Transfer the lemon pepper cauliflower wings to a serving platter. Top with some thinly sliced green onions, and add the garlic feta dipping sauce on the side.  Enjoy with a crisp Grapefruit Radler for a perfect snack combo.
